Before you download it, here are four things that make the difference between owning a study workbook and finishing one.

​

1. One week at a time.

Fifty-two weeks looks long on paper, but a week is a small commitment. People who try to cover four lessons in one sitting usually stop by March. People who give it thirty minutes on the same day each week tend to finish. Pick your day now.

​

2. Write your answers down.
Thinking through a question feels like answering it. It isn't. Something happens when you put a sentence on paper that doesn't happen in your head, and by week forty you'll be glad you can look back and see how your thinking changed.

​

3. Keep a Bible open beside you.
Every doctrine in this workbook rests on texts you can read for yourself. Look them up rather than taking my word for it. The point is not to trust the workbook. The point is to know why the church has believed what it believes.

​

4. Getting stuck is part of the work.
Some weeks you'll disagree with what you read. Some weeks you'll finish more confused than you started. That is normal, and it's usually a sign you're taking the question seriously. Mark those pages and bring them to your pastor, your study group, or someone further down the road than you are.

A note on traditions. Faithful Christians differ on real questions. Where the historic church has spoken with one voice, this workbook says so plainly. Where sincere believers disagree, it lays out the positions and tells you which one it favors and why, so you can weigh it yourself.

​

Working through it with others? The material holds up either way, but a group gives you the one thing solo study can't: someone to say it out loud to. Two or three people and a standing time is enough.
